It’s time to get to the bottom of one of the most talked about fat loss myths out there! Calorie counting. I am sure you have seen many ‘fitness gurus’ or have heard people try to tell you that in order to lose weight, you need to count your calories throughout the day, and eat low fat, low calorie labeled processed foods. 1980s called, they want their information back 😀

Don’t fall for this unhealthy trap.

If you’re like most people who are trying to lose weight, you are lead to believe that the lower the calorie, the MORE weight you will lose.  This is completely false and outdated!

The more toxic your body is, the more weight you will gain due to chronic inflammation and thus illness and disease.  In order to burn fat, you need essential nutrients from vitamins and minerals. You WILL NOT get any nutrients from processed foods, that are labeled as low calorie, sugar-free and low fat, including skim, 1%, 2%, 3% dairy products.  Just think, when you see processed foods labelled this way, the more toxins and chemicals are hidden in products such as these.

Low calorie, low fat, sugar- free, or fat free means the essential minerals and vitamins that were once in it’s whole form, are stripped away during the high heating process. Now, to make the food more soluble and taste better, additives, artificial sweeteners, colorings, and preservatives are put back into the food. If these were not added, it would taste like crap and not last on the shelf. These additives are complete hazardous to your house.  Let me give you an example and take you through what you can find in store bought yogurt that is labels 0%, 1%, or 2 %, 3% and or fat-free.

Take store bought yogurt for example. Did you know that store bought yogurt is one of the most dangerous foods out there?

High Fructose Corn Syrup 90– even a higher dose then regular high fructose corn syrup (this will be labeled as fructose or fructose syrup). An overload of fructose in the diet isn’t healthy because diets that are high in fructose are associated with obesity and cardiovascular disease. HFCS-90 is derived from corn starch; Weight gain, cancer, fatty liver, liver stress, increased cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, lucky gut, and increased mercury.

Neosugarhighly processed sugar made by GMO sugar beets/cane; it’s so heavily processed that your body can’t digest it and it just passes through you like a fiber.

Dimethylpolysiloxane- is silly putty used in McDonalds fries and yoga matts, widely used as a defoamer in oil fryers at restaurant; FDA allows it to be preserved with formaldehyde, one of the most highly toxic substances on earth.

Nanoparticles: used as artificial color to make the yogurt whiter for marketing; has been shown to carry risks to human health and the environment, and nanoparticles of titanium dioxide are specifically linked to gastrointestinal inflammation.

Synesthetic pesticides: found in yogurts with fruit

In addition, this yogurt is not organic, and from stressed cows milk that have been crammed in small spaces, grain fed, pumped with anti-biotics and synthetic hormones. What the cow eats will show up in your dairy products.

If you look at an organic, non-GMO, WHOLE yogurt (meaning in its whole form), you will find that it comes from grass fed cow’s milk, without additives and chemicals, synthetic hormones and antibiotics.  You will reap the benefits from real milk yogurt that supports healthy digestion, lowers the risk of Type 2 Diabetes, lowers the risk of colorectal cancer, increases bone density & may help prevent osteoporosis.  It can actually help you lose weight, boosts the immune system, reduces high blood pressure, and reduce bad cholesterol.

Now, the problem with the industry and myth of calorie counting is that many people believe that it really doesn’t matter where the calorie comes from, as long as you don’t eat too many of them, to further weight loss.  So you may think, consuming a low calorie fat yogurt will allow you to drop weight, as you are keeping under 800 calories in a day. But the misunderstanding is this: NOT ALL CALORIES are created equal.

When I say this I mean that its about the quality of the calorie.  Yes you could argue, and I agree, that if you cut your calorie intake, your expediure will go down as well. Meaning if you are eating less, yes, you will lose weight.

However, you want to look at where the calories are coming from. Here’s another example to help you really grasp this concept.

For example, if you eat a donut full of HFCS, GMOs, artificial colors, polysorborate 60, partially hydrogenated oil that is about 140 calories

But eat a large piece of fruit full of fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that is also 140 calories……what is the better choice?

Yes it’s the same amount of calories, but of different quality!

YES, to some degree it is true that ALL calories are equal.  You have 1000 cal from a can of coke, and 1000 cal from asparagus.  If you burn both in a lab, They will both release the SAME amount of energy.  But when you drink a can a coke, and eat asparagus, the results with be extremely different with triggering you biochemical responses in the body.

The coke will spike your insulin and blood sugar= disrupt your neurotransmitters, therefore making you feel hungry and fat. The asparagus on the other hand will balance out your blood sugar, therefore making you feel full, satisfied, decrease your appetite and help you BURN FAT. How can you argue that calories are the same?

I’d advise you to get rid of the mentality that a ‘low cal- low diet’ works and to consume high quality real whole foods. This method is what I use for Warrior Athlete and have worked for years.

No measuring your food portions or counting calories.  Really ‘stop counting your calories and start counting toxins!”  This means that by eating smarter, you will be eating high quality ‘real foods’ and benefit a whole lot more.
